Accidental death and Dismemberment Insurance – Explained

accdeath.jpgThe said supplemental coverage provides compensation in terms of loss of life due to an accident or dismemberment. Say a person dies in an accident, the insurance firm compensates the family with a lump sum amount which at the agreed contract rate. But do you know that these types of supplemental coverage can or cannot provide you with the protection you and your family needs without a proper understanding of the fine print. There are two types of supplemental coverage namely the 24-hour and the non-occupational coverage. The non occupational coverage does not cover accidents that occurs when the insured is injured while conducting or performing duties at work. This is because firms are by laws obligated to have the necessary employee compensation insurance to cover such events and a payout by an insurance firm would equal double coverage. The 24-hour coverage on the other hand, covers the insured where ever he/she may be and is almost on a no questions asked policy with most insurers provided all documentation and requirements are submitted and are indeed determined to be according to the terms of the insurance contract that was signed.
